Jimbelung means ‘friend’ in the Yugambeh language. Yugambeh people have lived in the Gold Coast region for thousands of years, and creating our forever home in this beautiful part of the Gold Coast had been a dream of mine for a long time.
Our scope was:
Building a healthy home and carefully selecting materials was essential for me, as I wanted to create a space that my family would grow up in and thrive.
My aim was to build a healthier, more sustainable home for my family to grow up in. I researched and sought out building materials that were safe for my family, including low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) paint, wood fibre insulation and natural wood products. We installed a mechanical ventilation system in conjunction with double-glazed windows to increase energy efficiency, and used recycled railway sleepers for our exterior decking. Each choice was deliberate and built to last.
In the aftermath of a global pandemic, we wrestled with consistent price rises and delays in manufacturing and supply of products, which significantly increased our build time.
